Thor Avenges the Nine Realms | Thor The Dark World Review #ThorDarkWorld

November 8, 2013 by Lauren 37 Comments

The mighty silver hammer and golden mane of Thor is back on the big screen in an epic tale that sweeps across the 9 realms of the universe.  As you might expect the movie is action packed but it also has some funny moments and touching moments.  The characters have been developed in the previous films and are developed even further making Thor The Dark World the tip of the iceberg in this movie franchise.

I really liked the story and the way the film looked visually.  Yes the special effects were awesome but that was not the only thing to like.  Each shot and camera angle looked like a panel in a comic book which when combined with the stunning 3-D effects really added to my enjoyment of the film.  The actresses and actors are some of the strongest in Hollywood.  Washboard abs or a six pack would be a gross understatement when describing  the quality of Chris Hemsworth’s abs.  Making him perfect for the role of Thor.

The rest of the impeccable cast returns as well with sir Anthony Hopkins as Thor’s father Odin.  We learned in the first film that Odin’s family life is pretty complicated.  Renee Russo plays the mom, who is torn between loving her children and coming to grips with their transgressions.  Natalie Portman plays Thor’s love interest, Jane Foster.  She is dealing with the complications long distance relationship with Thor not to mention that she is super smart at science and stuff.

Don’t forget my favorite Tom Hiddleston who’s Loki is as smug, sarcastic, and self absorbed as ever.  The ultimate bad boy.  The audience here in Vegas that I saw the film with cheered when his picture and name flashed on the screen at the end credits. One of the things I really love about this and all the Marvel movies is that when they are over you can go back and check on whether the characters appeared in the comics.  They always do and this was the case with Christopher Eccleston as Malekith the Dark Elf.   His voice in this movie is super evil.  The kind of sound that makes you want to hold your loved ones a little closer.  Thor, the universe, and the rest of all eternity definitely have their hands full with this ancient enemy.

Thor 3 just needs to be all Loki, all the time. There are worse things in the world than staring at Tom Hiddleston for two hours or so. 🙂

Thor is hot, but Portman as his love interest is odd….she looks like a little gir, and he is a hulking, muscle man…I love her but they should have picked someone sexier, lol…I LOVE Thor movies!
