I have spoken to you before about my love for the Dolby Cinema at AMC and I am always surprised that there is more to love about this amazing theater. On this last visit we went to see the new smash hit from Disney, Moana. Moana is an action packed coming of age story that celebrates Polynesian culture that combines characters, a storyline, animation, and music in a way that Disney does best. Seeing Moana at our favorite theater in town, Dolby Cinema at AMC in Town Square, made our movie going experience second to none.
From the moment you enter the theater you notice the care and craftsmanship that has gone into the construction of this amazing venue. Gone are the dimly lit running lights and the claustrophobic hallway that leads you to your seat. The hallway has been widened and one wall has been replaced with a HD screen that took up the entire wall. It is one of the many highlights of seeing a movie in Dolby Cinema! Their Moana entrance does not disappoint with clips of the cutest characters from the animation.
Everything is bigger, the screen, your seat, the aisles, and the sound is huge. You would expect great sound from a Dolby theater and this is some of the best I have heard. And the picture quality was equally impressive with tremendous clarity and resolution. The picture and sound in the Dolby Theater give you the feeling that you are right there when Moana takes on the journey of her life!
My family and I love going to see a movie in Dolby Cinema at AMC and seeing Moana there made it an exceptional movie going experience. You and your family will not be disappointed! Moana in Dolby Cinema at AMC makes the perfect holiday experience for the entire family!

Moana Review
Moana grew up on a isolated island in the Pacific that provided all she and her people could ever want or need. As she prepares to take over the role of chief from her father she begins to realize that all is not well. The crops are rotten and the fish beds are empty. Now with a little help from her mystical Grandma, a Demi-God, and lovably obtuse rooster, Moana will set out on an epic journey to restore the natural order of things and save her people from famine.
Moana is an incredibly strong character but like all of us can be insecure and unsure of what is the right thing to do. Like all of us she has to live up to the expectation of others and must confront whether to do what’s expected or what she knows is right. She is so relatable a character because like all of us she is on a journey to discover who she is. My family loved watching her story unfold on the screen.
The film is filled with music, color, texture, and pattern of the Polynesian culture and presents it in ways we have never seen before on screen. The music is an amazing blend of contemporary song with deep rooted heart pounding music from the pacific created by Lin-Manuel Miranda from Hamilton, Mark Mancina from The Lion King and pacific island musician Opetaia Foa‘i from Te Vaka! The film used traditional art to tell the legends of the past. Patterns and prints are expertly used to show the rich history of the culture which is exactly how we understand ancient cultures today.
Maui, half god, half mortal who guides Moana on her quest, is filled with artwork himself. His tattoos tell his story throughout the centuries. One of Maui’s many tattoos’ is Mini Maui who also happens to be Maui’s conscience, his Jiminy Cricket with attitude, and one of my favorite characters.
We loved this movie for its strong characters, beautiful music and stunning art and animation. Moana is a must see for every family this holiday season.
