I am excited to share that PBS Kids is premiering a new program on November 23 called Splash and Bubbles! Splash and Bubbles is the latest show from the legendary Jim Henson Company! The show will be a unique learning opportunity concerning a topic we could all learn a little more about, the ocean! The Jim Henson Company developed some serious tech to produce the show and it promises to be filled with groundbreaking animation and puppetry. They also worked closely with marine biologist to connect kids to ocean science.
Splash and Bubbles is the story of two adorable fish who go on wild adventures across the depths of the world’s oceans. Together with their friends they meet an array of diverse marine life while they explore underwater habitats that look like they are on a different planet. The end of each adventure brings Splash and Bubbles back home to share what they have learned with their neighbors. Like all PBS programs, Splash and Bubbles, has learning at its center. Our children will learn about marine biology while engaging in social and emotional topics.
Producing Splash and Bubbles is a culmination of twenty years or more of work developing what the Jim Henson Company calls Motion Capture Puppetry. The system is so groundbreaking because for the first time the performance of the puppeteer can be captured by an omnipresent camera and instantly generate that performance into animation from any angle. The spontaneity of live stage performance and super cute animated characters sounds like a recipe for great children’s programming.
Splash and Bubbles will launch a bunch of digital content including full episodes and games for kids. Along with the Splash and Bubbles PBS will also premiere a brand new episode of Wild Kratts: Creatures of the Deep Sea special. This is a perfect pairing because the brothers Kratt have engaged my children with a curiosity in nature for years now. They will be the perfect people to introduce us to our new friends Splash and Bubbles.
Premiering the same day is new Wild Kratts movie, Creatures of the Deep! Check your local listings for showtimes!
