We attended a screening for the purpose of review. Thoughts and opinions are my own.
The bonds of friendship are challenged among tweens when the construction of a new freeway forces an entire neighborhood to relocate in rural Nevada. Complicating things further for these three friends is navigating the social pressures of youth in a social media world. And if that was not enough something has caused everyone’s cell phone to stream a swirl of freaky graphics. What will bring these friends together on their last night? Echo, an adorable and empathetic character who will steal your heart.
There are not a ton of kids movies out there this summer and this is definitely one of the better ones. How do I know this? The film held our 5 year olds attention throughout. This is really saying something for a movie that is mostly live action and not a cartoon. Earth to Echo definitely has great special effects and I am sure our son enjoyed them. He really loves robots and Echo is so cute and cuddly which I know is an unusual quality for a robot.
The acting makes this movie. Alex (Teo Halm), Tuck (Brian “Astro” Bradley), and Munch (Reese Hartwig) do not really belong or fit in with the popular cliques at school. All they have is each other and now that is being torn up quite literally by the freeway construction. Their characters confront real world problems including Emma (Ella Wahlestedt) who proves the most popular girl in the school is also under a good deal of social pressure. Together they make an incredible discovery that will bond their friendship forever.
